DON'T SELL YOUR BIRTHRIGHT

Esau, Jacob, and the Birthright
Genesis 25:30-34

30. And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

31. And Jacob said, Sell me this day your birthright.

32. And Esau asid, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this do to me?

33. And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

34.Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles, and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

You are probably wondering, what does this have to do with me. We as born-again Christians, have been given a birthright from God the father. Our birthright is eternal life in heaven and our holiness. Holiness is to be set apart, to be different from the world. Christ said "Be thou holy, because I am holy." All we have to do is live a godly and just life while we are on earth, our temporary home.

However, every time we submit to our fleshly desires, ie. sex, drugs, parties, music etc., we are in a sense selling our birthright by allowing people to lump us with the people of the world, that's why people are turned off by the Word of God, because the people who are in the church act exactly the same as the people who aren't in the church.

So I charge and challenge you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, to strive to live Christ-like, ask yourself before you do anything, "Would Jesus (fill in the blank)?" more often the answer is NO!!!!!

God is not trying to cramp your style or keep you from having fun, He's trying to guard you from becoming a slave to sin. That's why when people do drugs, drink or have sex, it often becomes a habit. Today's society would call that an addiction, or a disease. I agree with that, but it is an addiction or disease of sin, and Dr. God has the only prescription, acceptance of Jesus Christ as your savior and submission of your life to Him.

May God bless and keep you through these trying and difficult times.

"Life ain't what it seems, but seems to appeal, to our appetite so just for a single meal
we sell our birthrights, now that's senseless like, trading in your motorcyle for a dirtbike
earth's aight but turn on a searchlight, and you'll notice that a new pair of Jordan's are some hurt nikes"
- Da' T.R.U.T.H. "This Is For You"
