50 years ago, we were fighting for civil rights
On November 4th, we stayed up all night
Cause it appears that we’ve turned a new page in the war
We’ve passed our fears, and we’re still here
Despite racism, and prejudice
For years we’ve dreamed of this
A BLACK PRESIDENT
That breaks the precedent
Of all the former Presidents
He stands out from them all
Barack, stay strong, trust in the Lord
Pray for guidance and you won’t fall
Even if you do, God is still there
We have a black president
Dr. King dreamed of this
We have equal footing
We’re not quite singing together
But we’re closer to harmony
Streets are full of shooting
The government is concerned with the weather
But we’re closer to the song we
Shall OVERCOME
